T Minus Two Type Two Diabetes and Other Passions

27May/115

Third D-Anniversary

Today, the last Friday in May, is the day I mark the anniversary of my diagnosis with Type 2 diabetes. (I'm not 100% sure of the actual date.)  I'm not going to retell the story of my diagnosis here -- you can read it here, if you like -- but I did want to mark the day.

The report at the three-year mark is "so far, so good" - but with an asterisk.  My A1c tests have been quite satisfactory for about a year now, and other measures of my health have been pretty good. The asterisk is that for the last week or so, I noticed in coming back from a gap in my daily testing that my fasting numbers have been running high - not disastrously high, but high for me and higher than target range.

There are a couple of possible explanations for this that are addressable. But it may also be that my diabetes is progressing, and that I will soon require more aggressive treatment to get good control. That's a bit discouraging, should it be so, but okay. What's important on this anniversary is that I'm both pretty healthy and pretty happy.
