DSMA Blog Carnival: What I’m Looking Forward To
January's blog carnival topic is: "What is the one thing you are looking forward to in 2012? (diabetes related)"
My 2012 diabetes aspiration is to fall. (And with the mild, ice-free winter we're having here, I may need to find a staircase with a slick spot.)
No, not that kind of fall. I want my morning blood glucose tests to fall so that they're usually below 120.
See, since I don't take insulin, my morning BG test is not done with the purpose of planning my dose. It's more like a checkup, a status check, a call to my friend the pancreas to see how it's feeling. The result on any one day isn't significant (although it can be hard to remember that). What matters is averages and trends. And, though I haven't been testing as regularly as I should, it's been quite a while since I often saw a number in my target range.
So, I need to make (or remake) a few changes: a little more exercise, a little better eating. And, more work to figure out what's happening to me overnight and how best to address it.
Within the year, I hope, I'll be singing that great cowboy diabetes song, "Home, home in my range...."
This post is my January entry in the DSMA Blog Carnival. If you’d like to participate too, you can get all of the information at http://diabetessocmed.com/2012/january-dsma-blog-carnival/.

I hope it happens for you.
For whatever strange reason, mine has been there (even though I don’t deserve it at all).

I hear ya, Bob. Those darn morning numbers can be so exasperating! If you have an idea of why they’re up, it’s an opportunity to berate yourself (which you shouldn’t do). If you have no idea why they’re up, it’s frustrating as heck to figure it all out! Been there, done that; repeat.
I hope you’re home on your range soon!

Go Bob!!!! This is a great goal and I know you can make that meter fall (but maybe keep yourself upright, okay??)
